Special Fresh Jamz this Friday!

First of all, let me thank you all again for making the January Fresh Jamz such a wonderful experience for us all. It has been a pleasure to serve you all for the last three years… and we are looking forward to many more!
This Friday will also be a very special event, with an extremely special guest, Bay Area Hip Hop legend & innovator, Joe Quixx. New comers may know him as a member of the Oakland Faders, us old asses know him as co-founder of the Wake Up Show and producer extraordinaire. Odiaka & I are proud to bring him with us to the Parkway this Friday.

If you’d like to know more about the man, you’re in luck. DJ Matthew Africa, a great DJ and music historian, recently completed a set of interviews with the man, and was good enough to post it his blog and make it downloadable by all!
Here’s part two of the interview, discussing the start of the Wake Up Show—please check the man’s blog for more! (And follow it, lots of great music!)
See you all on Friday!!

New Music Tuesday!

First of all, let me refer you to last week’s new music. Roach Gigz‘ new mixtape has not left my walkman (ok, it’s on shuffle while I cook), and the dozens of daily releases around the Bay keep me busy just sorting tunes. One of these days, I will have a gig that lasts 36 hours, and involves thousands of people passing through to hear tons of different types of music, just so I can justify all of the tunes I have! OK, I do that on a regular basis. But still….

This week we have some great new stuff. And not all of it is music.
But of course we start with music! Here’s the new mixtape by the ROD Project, hosted by DJ Slow Poke. The Bay embraced him last year with “I Can’t Stand You,” and hopefully this mixtape will get him some next level exposure. Download and enjoy!

All over the web today was also talk of the new collaboration between Jay-Z and Kanye West called H.A.M (which stands for “hard as a m.f”). It was produced by Lex Luger, who had clearly suffered a recent defeat to Superman. He’s famous for the work he’s done with Rick Ross (no comment), and many think that Rick Ross should lay a verse on a remix. I think instead they should throw the entire thing away try again. To be fair, I’ve never been a Jay-Z fan, and I think Kanye is one of a few famous rappers who I wish had stuck to production only. And I don’t like opera. But still, listen to the song and tell me it’s awesome if you really think so. Oh, and if you want to put opera in dance music, have fun with it and do it right!

Download it here

Here’s something more fun, by Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. Guess what it’s about? Check it out.

More Oakland Stuff: Keak tha Sneak‘s new single from his new album, due February.

For my reggae folks, here’s this new one from Kartel. I’ll put up more reggae once I finish sorting, but there is some good new stuff out.

There’s also this new mixtape from Kid Sister as well—and just think, this is the edited version of the new music out today! So far, so good, 2011.

Is that all? Of course not! Check back later for more info on Kev Choice‘s new album as well, the release party is tonight at Yoshi’s.

Meanwhile, the first equipment announcements are slowly trickling out of NAMM. The first one is a pioneer controller for tracktor and serato. Not exactly my style, but let’s see what comes next!!

Something else coming up is not new, but just announced: FRESH JAMZ # YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!
